Empowering Migrant Women: Tulia's Commitment During the 16 Days of Activism

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, observed annually from November 25 to December 10, is a global campaign dedicated to ending violence against women and girls. This year, the campaign's theme is "Towards Beijing +30: UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls," emphasizing the urgency of recommitment, accountability, and resourcing as we approach the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

UN WOMEN At Tulia, we recognize that migrant women, particularly those from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, face unique challenges that can make them more vulnerable to gender-based violence. Language barriers, cultural differences, and unfamiliarity with local legal systems often hinder their ability to seek help and access essential services.

In alignment with this year's theme, Tulia is intensifying our efforts to support migrant women through:

Culturally Sensitive Support Services: We provide tailored assistance that respects and understands the diverse cultural backgrounds of the women we serve, ensuring they feel seen and heard.

Legal Advocacy: Our team offers guidance on legal rights and processes, empowering women to navigate the justice system confidently.

Community Outreach: By engaging with local communities, we raise awareness about gender-based violence and the resources available to migrant women.

Capacity Building: We conduct workshops and training sessions to equip women with skills and knowledge, fostering independence and resilience.

During these 16 days, we call upon our community, partners, and supporters to join us in advocating for the rights and safety of migrant women. Together, we can create an environment where every woman, regardless of her background, lives free from violence and fear.

Let us unite in action and purpose, reaffirming our commitment to ending violence against women and girls as we move towards Beijing +30.
