Update on Migrant victims of Domestic Abuse Concession

Updated 16 February 2024

The title and name of the concession has been changed from destitute domestic violence concession (DDVC) to Migrant Victims of Domestic Abuse Concession (MVDAC).

The Migrant Victims of Domestic Abuse Concession (MVDAC) is a significant policy update that provides support to certain partners who are victims of domestic abuse in the UK. Here are the key details:

  • Name Change: Previously known as the Destitute Domestic Violence Concession (DDVC), the concession has been renamed to better reflect its purpose and scope.

  • Eligibility Criteria Expansion:

    • Victims of domestic abuse in the UK can now benefit from this concession if they are:

      • Partners of individuals on a work (sponsored) and economic route.

      • Students or graduates.

    • This expansion ensures that a wider range of victims can access support during challenging times.

  • Three-Month Period of Status and Support:

    • The MVDAC grants a three-month period of immigration status and temporary support to migrant victims of domestic abuse in the UK.

    • This support is available to:

      • Dependent partners of migrants in the UK with permission on a work (sponsored) and economic route.

      • Dependent partners of migrants in the UK with permission as students or graduates.

  • Appendix VDA: As of January 31, 2024, the concession also covers victims of domestic abuse who have permission as partners under Appendix FM or Appendix Armed Forces.

    • However, it’s important to note that not all victims of domestic abuse will be eligible for settlement under Appendix VDA.
