Fiona's Journey To Renewal: Finding Hope Through Tulia's Embrace

Fiona, a 38-year-old mother of three, first learned about Tulia in February 2020 while searching for a women's refuge due to her recent separation from an abusive partner. Tulia provided crucial support by contacting various refuge centre’s on her behalf and offering emotional assistance during a challenging time. Following their intervention, Fiona benefited from counseling sessions and found a safe place for her family, allowing her children to return to their education after disruptions caused by both domestic issues and the pandemic. She praises Tulia's services and wholeheartedly recommends them to others.

 

 How did you first hear about Tulia? I first heard about them in February 2020 when I was looking for women’s refuge. They supported me with that search and they contacted me again in December 2020, to offer me Christmas food parcels and vouchers. 

 What was your situation like before? I was struggling financially and I wanted them to help me find a safe place where I could relocate with my children, since I was recently separated from my partner, who was abusive. 

 What steps did Tulia take with your situation? They called at different women’s refuge centres on my behalf and gave me emotional support, at the time I was very anxious and uncertain about my future and the safety of my children.

What improvements or highlights have there been? There have been a lot of improvements, they even offered counselling and divorce counselling too, I think about 8 sessions. I now think I'm doing alright, because my children and I have our own safe place and they can continue with their education after their schooling was interrupted by both the situation at home and the pandemic.

Would you recommend the service to others? Yes.

In which ways could Tulia’s services improve? I think they’re doing fantastic actually.
