Championing Migration Justice: Tulia at the Migrant Action Event

On January 21, 2025, Tulia had the privilege of attending a profoundly impactful event organized by Migrant Action and its dedicated team. This gathering addressed the pressing issues of systemic vulnerability and labour exploitation affecting migrant workers. It brought together a diverse group of advocates, including migrant rights organizations, union representatives, legal experts, and individuals with lived experience, to discuss meaningful solutions for migration justice.

Our Founder and CEO, Rumbi Bvunzawabaya, was honoured to participate in a powerful panel discussion that explored practical steps toward ensuring dignity, rights, and empowerment for displaced workers. The dialogue underscored the ongoing struggles migrant workers face and emphasized the urgent need for policy changes, stronger protections, and greater support systems. Panelists shared insights on the legal, economic, and social challenges migrants encounter and proposed actionable measures to address these injustices.

A key theme of the discussion was the importance of collaborative advocacy in effecting change. By uniting voices from different sectors, the event highlighted the collective power of grassroots activism, legal intervention, and institutional support in reshaping policies and practices that impact migrant workers. It was particularly inspiring to hear from individuals with lived experience, whose personal stories provided crucial perspectives on the real-life consequences of labour exploitation and systemic marginalization. Their testimonies reinforced the urgency of the fight for fair wages, safe working conditions, and legal protections.

This event served as a crucial platform for amplifying migrant voices and fostering collective action toward a fairer society. By bringing together key stakeholders, it reinforced the importance of unity and advocacy in driving lasting change. In addition to panel discussions, the event featured workshops, interactive sessions, and networking opportunities that encouraged participants to forge meaningful connections and explore potential collaborations.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Migrant Action for their unwavering commitment to justice and equity. At Tulia, we remain dedicated to championing the rights of migrant workers, and we encourage continued conversations, policy engagement, and grassroots activism to create a world where every worker is treated with fairness and respect.

As we move forward, we call on policymakers, businesses, and communities to take concrete steps toward addressing the systemic barriers migrant workers face. Change is only possible when we work together to uphold justice, human dignity, and equal opportunities for all.

Let’s keep pushing forward together!
