Regional Hubs for UK Displaced International Healthcare Workers

A new initiative in the UK is creating fresh hope for migrant workers affected by sponsorship issues. Regional Hubs for Displaced Workers are being launched across the country to ensure that workers—especially in the care sector—can stay, work, and contribute without unnecessary disruption.

What Are Regional Hubs?

Regional Hubs for Displaced Workers are coordinated networks that help migrant workers find new employment and sponsorship when their current sponsor can no longer employ them. These hubs act as a bridge between displaced workers and verified UK employers looking to fill roles, especially in high-demand sectors like health and social care.

How Do They Work?

When a sponsoring employer loses their licence:

  • Affected workers are referred to their local Regional Hub.

  • They are added to a secure, centralized database accessible to eligible UK employers seeking staff.

  • Employers are required to check this database first before sponsoring overseas candidates, giving priority to displaced workers already in the UK.

  • If a match is found, the sponsorship transfer process is fast-tracked — no added delays or fees.

What Support Do Hubs Offer?

Each Regional Hub provides wrap around services, including:

  • Job-matching and employment assistance

  • Immigration and visa advice

  • Help finding new sponsorship

  • Access to financial and wellbeing support

These services are typically delivered through collaborations between Local Authorities, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), and Care Associations, ensuring tailored, on-the-ground support.

How to Access Support

If you've been affected:

  • You’ll receive a formal referral to your local hub.

  • You can also reach out to your local council, Care Association, or ICB to find your area’s support process.

  • For personalized advice, contact the Home Office or your visa sponsor support centre.

Be proactive , your path forward begins with the right information.

Why It Matters

Regional Hubs acknowledge the real-world complexities migrant workers face and offer a practical, compassionate solution. Rather than being penalized for issues beyond their control, displaced workers now have a clear, dignified route to stay and contribute to UK communities.

This model strengthens the workforce, relieves pressure on vital sectors like healthcare, and reinforces the UK's commitment to ethical, worker-friendly immigration practices.
